Written Goals: How Is It Important?

Nakabasa ako nuon ng libro called, 8 Secrets of the Truly Rich By Bo Sanchez about (10) Years ago about Goal setting in which one important technique is you write it or them down on your journal or a simple paper then read aloud everyday.

Which I did, sinulat ko ang aim kong amount of money I wish to earn after 20 years (long term). Then (medium term), skills and stuff I want to learn and start doing in 10 years, and (short term) stuff I want done in months or year deadline.

Dati, sinulat ko siya sa journal and now that I’m back to Philippines, nakita ko ulit yung journal tucked in a drawer. May mga maliliit at malalaking bagay na life changing I never thought I have actually written and done them!

Ngayon nag-upgrade na ko at nakasulat na ang aking new list of goals in a spreadsheet, naka- Excel na hehehe. But It doesn't matter where you write it, in a paper, notebook or typed in your computer as long as you go back to it and read that you're going to do it in a specific date.

How amazing is that every single one, unti- unti na ma-mark ko na siya as DONE! At kung may mga ilan wala pang result or any action, I put a red mark and a sign (Critical).

I heard from Brian Tracy at the video below, that when you are 100% sure of what you want and have it written to your to- do-list or goals journal, it programs your mind and body to do whatever it takes to accomplish them and actually magnet resources, people, connections and money in making it happen!

I do have goosebumps sometimes how fast things happen when you have clear written goals set…

Green- eyed Monster turned Pink-eyed Bunny

I used to be so into the material things before, especially noong teens pa ako.

Jealousy and greed for stuff used to envelope me for a long time.

I used to like strolling and going to the mall and window shop kahit wala ako masyadong pera. Feeling ko mall is a paradise, a cinderella's world of wonders. I take the whole day spending my little money buying nonsense items I didn't have urgent need.

But when I worked in the mall for over four years in Dubai. Sa umpisa, I was so exhilarated and thought it was a dream come true. I breathe and live mall, but after a year, sobra ang pagkasawa ko, dahil araw-araw I have to be in a mall, I dreaded it. I hated it.

Well, I think we all passed that phase in our life. Or maybe ikaw hindi pa, maybe until now you are so into trying your best into buying and getting the latest gadget or shoes or watch. Kahit you will get it from credit, at mabaon sa utang. But good thing, I have passed that phase in my life.

I am just so glad now that it is over. Kahit nagpipista ang mata ko whenever I pass a mall now, I now have self- control and no longer shop impulsively. I simply enjoy looking at new stuff but no sudden urge to buy, but if ever I need to think about it not just 10 times but 20 times kung bibilhin ko talaga siya.

I have simplified my closet, and just keep some clothes I know I'm going to be wearing a lot and classics and have know how to mix and match.

I am more excited in keeping my money for my stock investment. I am more  happy to be free from credit card debt and save my cash to multiply it through bonds or mutual funds.

Dahil I know, inflation ang kalaban nating lahat. Five years ago ang ChickenJoy was 65 pesos, nang dumating ako recently I just found out it is now 140 pesos. I should tighten my belt and keep my cash to multiply and let it grow for my future retirement.

Yeah, a simple delayed gratification is what I need, and you might be needing as well too.

Money is Not The Biggest Motivation for (an Effective!) Work

It was wonderful to be reunited with some Highschool classmates and my kumare and their kids.

I’ve had a chat with one of my kumare who just resigned from her job, and until now she says to me how awful her experience was with her boss. Alam ninyo bang compared to her previous jobs, she was being paid double the salary pero hindi siya nagtagal and just lasted for less than a month.

Sabi niya, at times, hindi pa man niya duty time, she is required to be answering the phone whenever the boss calls at any time during the day, at pagagalitan kagad kapag hindi siya nakasagot kahit saan pa at kung anuman ang ginagawa niya. Sabi pa niya na merong times na she is already doing a report at the moment at biglang may ipapatong na ipagagawa ulit sa kanya at an impossible deadline!

Ang masama pa nito, kapag pinagagalitan siya, he would have a long lecture of the boss’s school records, his degrees and accomplishments, at parang ang tingin sa mga subordinates niya inferior and nothing better than him.

What he didn’t know was she reported to a higher boss about this boss’s  attitude and after few days, nalaman niya na he got fired din from his job.

She didn’t even need to work kasi her husband working abroad is supporting her financially naman pero dahil nakatapos naman siya and she doesn’t want to be bored at home lang kaya she decided to keep herself busy with work. When I look at her talagang parang traumatized siya sa napagdaanan niya duon sa work na yun! What a sad story!

When I used to handle a team of mine when I was supervising a group of nine subordinates’ years ago, I learned that each person has a different motivation to be really effective at work! Not all of them aspire for a leadership position and be promoted and get a higher compensation. Just as most of us think as this is the one and only goal: To climb the corporate ladder.

One person‘s motivation could be:

1.       Time for Family or Oneself - Getting a good break time or fixed day off is enough

2.       Belongingness – A sense or a feeling of being accepted as a part of a team working in one goal

3.       Looking for a change of routine and want to rotate to a different department or could be training for a new skill

4.       Recognition – People are hungry for being acknowledged or praised

5.       Being trusted for An Additional Assignment or Extra Task even it means an overtime

If you are already a Boss or a Supervisor of your team, observe and play into each person’s motivation. Most of the time, Money is one of them, but not the ultimate motivation especially if you are looking for a big improvement of your team not just in terms of sales but of career growth for yourself and for everybody.

Money incentive is definitely a plus, but respect and a fair treatment make any work worthwhile!

You Can Be A Star In My Book! .... Read On!

I had a great time last Tuesday sa pag-attend ko ng First Session of the Authors-To-Be Meeting with Our Mentor, Mr. Ardy Roberto. We had a nice dinner, coffee, small chat then we started.

He asked to introduce ourselves first which we did! And then, sinabi niya na mali ang pag-introduce namin sa sarili namin, he said to repeat introducing ourselves pero should go something like this:
Ako si __Name__, an Author of the Book: _Working Title_ and will be published on _Date_, so I’m inviting you to come for my Book’s Grand Launch and Book Signing + Photo Ops at __Location__. I’m expecting you all to be there together with your friends and family.

So much for a Dream Board and Affirmation you say silently in front of your mirror, na I keep on saying on my topics, It gave us a great boost of well yah… Laugh and Confidence!
Iba yung, announcing it to other people, to the public or to the world! Mr. Ardy said na when you speak your dream or you goal out loud, and much better if you confide it to an accountability group, pwedeng your bestfriend, family or your dog. It conditions your mind to accept this as a reality and will do whatever it takes for you to find solutions and resources to make it happen.

Sabi pa niya, “Everything is created in mind first, then to real life”. Very true, kasi when I decided to build a business, I have got a pretty picture in my mind that I created, thought of the characters, the colors and every detail before it was created in its true  form. Tinanong ko at kinausap ko ang kapatid ko, friends and relatives tungkol sa idea na yun, the services, and prices. Challenged the idea, planned and eventually… it all happened. Ang nasa isip ko lang, isang araw when we finally finished, I realized that’s the perfect picture in my mind for so long. Amazing. I created… from my imagination, passion, hunger and dream.

Back to my introduction, I said to everyone:

I’m Rowena Yap, Author of the Book “Working title – I said something like “Be who you want to Be!”, and will be published on 14th of March 2013 (My Birthday in case you wonder), so Im inviting you all to come to my Book’s Grand Launch and Book Signing +Photo Ops at (would you believe) ehem! SMX Convention Center, Manila! Big LOL not just in my mind, but all of us LOL-ed! Because of my guts, and everybody’s guts.
Di ako makapaniwala I said that, hirap mag-commit especially this Big! But can you all be my accountability group and watch out, remind me, poke me, or even pinch me? If I haven’t update you anything about my Book?

Something that you can help me if you can! I’m thinking about writing a Book about young successful entrepreneurs around 30s and below, has been in a Traditional, MLM or Online Business for 3 years + and is quite successful to share their stories about how they got into business at early age, their tips and secrets!

---->>Working Title : "17 Stories of Young Entrepreneurs”

If You ARE, or you know ANYBODY, please refer to me, PM me or comment so I can book  an Interview! Thanks in advance!

I’m also thinking about another Book topic… hmmm… I might make two books instead of one so please help and inspire me!

Right People + Small Steps Of Learning = SUCCESS

Aalis ako mamaya to meet up with a National Bookstore Bestselling Author, Mr. Ardy Roberto, and ten of the aspiring writers or authors!

I’ve read his bestselling book: Ang Pera Na Hindi Bitin, Look at the Photo Below:
Nakaka-inspire ang mga kuwento niya sa buhay noong when he was still buried in debt, at nagkasunod sunod yung mga pagsubok sa mga in-start niya na mga negosyo, I can just relate.

When I met up with him together with the rest of the writers-to-be, he advised na, kahit noong una, he wrote five books, and three may flop. Meron pa nga siya na naisulat na Book for the Sales People, well in straight english at tungkol sa Selling, pero yung book na yun hindi masyado successful! Hehehe
But when he wrote ang Pera na Hindi Bitin! Tag-lish pa, in simple paper, tiny thin book, for 50 Pesos only! And it sold Millions!

Or when you were still very slow in typing in the keypad noong Oldskool pa ang computer niyo!
Tulad rin yan ng any skills you want to learn, kahit anuman ang edad mo, if you will start and learn and practice, matututunan mo rin for example:

1.       Ang tamang pag-invest sa Stock market

2.       Mag-drive ng Car at magka- lisensya

3.       Magsulat at Mag-publish ng Iyong Libro

4.       Maging lisensiyadong Massage Therapist

5.       Maging Entrepreneur at mag-open ng mga Business!

Hindi lang iyon! Iba ang nag self teach at mag-isa kang nag aaral, yes there will be improvement, slow, steady and gradual! 1...2...3...4...5...6
Pero gusto mo ba na mag Leap from 1... Jump to 6... Then to 10! That fast at mag accelerate ang iyong learning, then surround yourself with the right people!
It's Quantum Growth or Leap for Improvement! If you speak, eat with or be friends with people that share your values, people who are better than you, people who you can learn with, people who will advise you not to commit the same mistakes na nagawa na nila para mas mapadali ang tagumpay mo!
Thanks for reading, and hope for your continuous learning!

Learn From Your Annoying Collections Department

Nabayaran mo na nga, naka receive ka pa rin ng Reminder ang iyong mahal na Collections department kasi due ka na for payment of your cable, postpaid or electricity bill. We have all been given the third letter of reminder this month. May First Notice, Second Notice, Final notice and so on, and it is effective di ba?
Katulad nila, hindi mo naman goal ang i-annoy ang customers mo because you are actually giving them a favor of letting them know you have a limited time offer of your services or products. But these people are just like you human who’s got a lot of things on their mind, kaya nung unang tweet mo na you are having a promo for 3 days, or having a garage sale of your designer clothes, parang very few ang nag re-respond.
Tip from your favorite collections agency? Repetition.

As a Famous Business  Expert and Marketer Dan Kennedy says, your customers are not on their noses by the window everyday waiting for the mailman to come and drop for your special voucher.

Cold calling is different, don’t ever use the phone, as at this age, telemarketing or aka “interruption marketing” is now so lame. This age birthed the new Permission Marketing.
This is done by Marketers obtaining permission before advancing to the next step in the purchasing process. For example, they ask permission to send email newsletters, posts from your Facebook Fan page, tweets to prospective customers. It is mostly used by online marketers, notably email marketers and search marketers, as well as certain direct marketers who send a catalog in response to a request. You wait for them to make an action, like, or a click to share to their wall and finally their personal inquiry to make it easy for you to close the sale.

Learn from the Art of Getting Paid of the Phrases Used by your Favorite Collections Department:

"…. Don’t wait until the appointment book is full, this is your second notice to finally make that call….."

"… This is your LAST Chance to book this limited time exclusive offer…"

"…We have extended this offer, make the call today and get an additional discount…"

Gamitin mo ang Secret of the Trades ng mga Great marketers of our Generation to finally close that sale!

Define Your U.S.P To Increase Your Business

Want to increase your Business? Then, what is your Unique Selling Proposition or U.S.P?

What is a Commodity? It is any generic item to satisfy want or need. For example coffee, rice,  egg, etc. I opened a Salon and Spa business, when there are plenty of Salons everywhere you look. There are offering the same services and thus making haircutting and spa services a commodity. Parang wala nang special differences in any salon or spa, they are offering same Hair Rebonding, Hair Coloring, Foot spa, Massage and Body Scrub.

So I thought of my own U.S.P – Unique Selling Proposition. Kasi sa lahat ng mga salon sa street namin, nobody offers yet Brazilian Blowout kind of hair treatment and different kind of foot spa service in a very affordable price. I have outsourced and done research, and offered a different kind of foot spa service, look at the photo below:

Ang mga Classic Footspa for those who are spaholics know most spas are using yung traditional Footspa machine, but you see, I opted for something different, and there are a lot of customers who would actually go out of their way and search for something extraordinary from what is seem to be a commodity or generic na to relax or do foot spa.

So one example is we offered a one of a-kind and gives a different kind of ticklish experience: Dr. Fish Foot Spa! It does an Acupuncture like suction of fish to exfoliate the calluses on the soles of the feet, ankles and toes! Stress- reliever siya on tired legs, and feet!

Ikaw, if you are already in any business, what U.S.P are you offering to your customers?
Or if you are thinking about starting one, ano ang one thing na you would like to be known for as having something unique or could be an extra mile kind of service to your customers?

Fact: There’s Never A Shortage Of Opportunity Or Wealth in the Universe

When our wallet is sometimes empty, magkakaroon ng laman, then parang ambilis maubos ng pera, it seems like we are just working and living to get by. But only if you let the money just pass by in your hands.

Do you know in your lifetime, you have held in your very own hands, Millions of money!

At sinave ko sa Mutual funds, di sana, I have my money working for me, at patuloy pa ito sa paglago!

I read or probably heard from one philosopher, that great business opportunities for wealth are just under our noses waiting to be discovered.

Hindi pa huli ang lahat, you are a great and talented individual at binigyan ng very powerful “Brain” to use to not only depend on Linear Income.

Ika nga ni Brian Tracy, in one of his talks, we are more blessed in this Golden time of our generation, kasi if you will look around, marami nang opportunities to make money! Either being a freelancer doing you passion, Online business, Direct selling etc.

You just have to define kung gaano kalalim ang i-fill ng universe na kaya mo. You define how much you want to earn. Yes, marami sa atin ang wanting, fantasizing, dreaming to earn millions monthly. Imposible ba yon? . . . hmmm.. imposible siguro. Then what you think about, you will get it.

“Please, please, please!”

At yung Daddy is like the Universe or your God, na willing to give you whatever you want,  and as much as you want, pero looking at you, and waiting until when you are capable of getting more than what you have now.

One Last Tip, to start mentally opening your mind of what’s possible.

Say out loud, how much you want to earn in a month, and in a year.

If Million, then say without a doubt, I WANT TO EARN 1 MILLION EVERY MONTH, 12 MILLION A YEAR.

If just thousands, say and affirm, I WANT TO EARN 100,000 PESOS A MONTH, 1.2 MILLION A YEAR.

If you want to earn, just double of what you’re earning now. Say the amount ____________ a month, and ______________ a year.

Do this everyday. In silence and loudly to program you mind to make it familiarized with getting more money.

Matthew Effect in Business and in General Life

"For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. (Matthew 25:29, King James Version.) "

Famous Author and Blogger, Malcolm Gladwell gives example about one person who is already wealthy will be given more money or investment opportunities by Banks and Financial institutions through loans and credits. Or Individuals who are talented in singing, are given opportunity to make it big through various contests and the like. But the people who got some talent with something and doesn’t share it, will end up wasting his or her gift and therefore this talent will eventually be forgotten and not sharpen, and thus is taken away.

So based on my understanding, we are actually stewards of our God at pinagbilinan lamang ng mga gifts niya, so habang nabubuhay tayo sa mundo, kung anuman ang binigay sa atin ng Diyos, Selling skills, Artistic Skills, kahit money from our salary, we should multiply at pagyamanin pa, and not put to waste or else kung anuman ang mayroon tayo, ay kukunin pa kung hindi tayo grateful at hinayaan na masayang lamang.
For those who would like to hear more examples from Malcolm Gladwell about the Matthew effect in general life and in business. Please watch the following video, marami ka pang matututunan dito:

If You Wish to Get Promoted: Then Promote Yourself First

He wrote a research that in the past 2 years, kumita ang kumpanya ng mahigit 4 million and the past year nag-lose ang kita ng kumpanya ng mahigit 4 million pesos, story of only 3 paragraphs. But he was happy, he felt powerful, kahit hindi sinasadya or didn’t know na ang ginawa niya mag kaka-epekto ng ganun kalaki. Whatever he did, he moved something significantly big! Naging sikat after 1 week of suspension, and promised to be more careful. True to life story of now Famous author and speaker, Malcolm Gladwell.

You don’t know how powerful you are.

I kind of experienced something similar in my workplace in the past but resulted in a positive way. For months, there hasn’t been a regular training for the staff or any refresh session lang about sa products or sa selling skills for example. Staff seemed not to care na whatever ang earnings nila everyday. Yung earnings everyday not so outstanding, average lang. So I volunteered to collect training materials, and trained the whole staff twice every morning bago mag start ang work. May ice breaker, and sharing of ideas and I tried to make the training fun with powerpoint, role plays etc.

In a span, of 1 month of regular training sa staff, the management sees a significant increase sa kita ng branch namin, and more customers ang nag iiwan ng positive feedback sa service ng store na nag-improve or the customers felt more happily served.

Di ako nagbuhat ng upuan, but I felt happy and satistied to have pushed a change that it was because of the training we regularly did! Positive feedback was sent to the head office, and been given a Commendation certificate. Fast forward another few months, and I got promoted as a Supervisor.

If you want to get promoted, and been wanting to for so long, you must not only do what you are asked to do, sa job description mo. Or for a change lang from doing the same thing over and over, you might want to add a skill or two in the workplace and impress your boss, by volunteering to make a new design of the company’s project kung magaling ka sa arts. Or if you know, you are good with organizing, you can get an additional task to organize the filing cabinet.

Or if you don’t have any plan to move up sa kumpanya ninyo due to any reason, then promote yourself and sell something on the side for an added bucks, makeup, perfume, tocino or embutido. Or join a legitimate or legal Direct selling company, it’s all up to you.

We must always do or work on something with hardwork plus an extra mile and with a happy face. That is a secret of achievers or if you want to climb the corporate ladder or wish to save and invest for your future. You don’t know how powerful you can be once you try to stretch yourself or go out of your comfort zone once in a while.

I Dream of a First Class Facilities for Philippines

I really don’t want to dwell so much with politics. So I will make this post short. And just talk more about my hopes and dreams for the country.

Katatapos lang mag file ng certificate of candidacy for Senate. So we can get the money’s worth of the tax we are paying the government. Na ang mga mapipili to serve the people will ultimately be selflessly serve the people and not serve their personal agendas first.

I will not mention the name, pero kwento lang niya ang mga nasa pwesto from the very basic position like kapitan, or konsehal. She observes how corruption starts sa hindi pag-gagawa ng mga activity for the people, pero approved ang budget at napupunta lang kung saan ang cheke na galing sa gobyerno. Knowing na kung gaano kaliit lang ang halaga, naco corrupt pa, how much more in the highest officials who get a lump sum amount na hindi man lang nagamit for the betterment of the Filipino poor people.
I just want to dream in the future for First class facilities for the Philippines. Iba nga kapag galing ka abroad and you have experienced the facilities sa ibang bansa, and you come back and compare at manglulumo ka.
Like I have been to airport in Hongkong:

And airport in Dubai:

And when I arrived in Philippines, looking at our airport, I said to myself, oh yeah now I know I’m back:

I know, hindi ito uunahin to renovate, kung mas marami naman na Pilipino ang kumakalam ang sikmura. By that time siguro, I’m not losing hope kapag maganda na ang ating airport, train stations and government buildings, and drainage systems would probably mean no more beggars on the street, and no more squatter’s area anywhere.

I believe in some of the officials right now in the government in their passion to fight a just and right system to solve the corruption. When there are still people I see on the news, na naiiwanan ng malaking pera sa kalesa or sa Taxi and they return it back to the owner, I still believe in the goodness of hearts of our people. Mas masarap pa rin talaga ang matulog ng mahimbing sa gabi, without the feeling of anxiety or guilt na naka- harm tayo ng iba in some way or the other.
